Al-Baqarah – The Cow
Surah 2: 30-39
2:30 And [mention, O Muḥammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority. They said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we exalt You with praise and declare Your perfection?” He [Allah] said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”
2:31 And He taught Adam the names – all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, “Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.”
2:32 They said, “Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.”
2:33 He said, “O Adam, inform them of their names.” And when he had informed them of their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.”
2:34 And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam”; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.
2:35 And We said, “O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.”
2:36 But Satan caused them to slip out of it and removed them from that [condition] in which they had been. And We said, “Go down, [all of you], as enemies to one another, and you will have upon the earth a place of settlement and provision for a time.”
2:37 Then Adam received from his Lord [some] words, and He accepted his repentance. Indeed, it is He who is the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.
2:38 We said, “Go down from it, all of you. And when guidance comes to you from Me, whoever follows My guidance – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.”
2:39 And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs – those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.”
Al-A’raf – The Heights
Surah 7: 11-35; 172
7:11 And We have certainly created you, [O mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam”; so they prostrated, except for Iblees.1 He was not of those who prostrated.
7:12 [Allah] said, “What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?” [Satan] said, “I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay [i.e., earth].”
7:13 [Allah] said, “Descend from it [i.e., Paradise], for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased.”
7:14 [Satan] said, “Reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected.”
7:15 [Allah] said, “Indeed, you are of those reprieved.”
7:16 [Satan] said, “Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them [i.e., mankind] on Your straight path.
7:17 Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].”
7:18 [Allah] said, “Depart from it [i.e., Paradise], reproached and expelled. Whoever follows you among them – I will surely fill Hell with you, all together.”
7:19 And “O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you will but do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.”
7:20 But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, “Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal.”
7:21 And he swore [by Allah] to them, “Indeed, I am to you from among the sincere advisors.”
7:22 So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?”
7:23 They said, “Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.”
7:24 [Allah] said, “Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment [i.e., provision] for a time.”
7:25 He said, “Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be brought forth.”
7:26 O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness – that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.
7:27 O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.
7:28 And when they commit an immorality, they say, “We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it.” Say, “Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?”
7:29 Say, [O Muḥammad], “My Lord has ordered justice and that you direct yourselves [to the Qiblah] at every place [or time] of prostration, and invoke Him, sincere to Him in religion.” Just as He originated you, you will return [to life] –
7:30 A group [of you] He guided, and a group deserved [to be in] error. Indeed, they [i.e., the latter] had taken the devils as allies instead of Allah while they thought that they were guided.
7:31 O children of Adam, take your adornment [i.e., wear your clothing] at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
7:32 Say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of [i.e., from] Allah which He has produced for His servants and the good [lawful] things of provision?” Say, “They are for those who believed during the life of this world, exclusively [for them] on the Day of Resurrection.” Thus do We detail the verses for a people who know.
7:33 Say, “My Lord has only forbidden immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed – and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know.”
7:34 And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].
7:35 O children of Adam, if there come to you messengers from among you relating to you My verses [i.e., scriptures and laws], then whoever fears Allah and reforms – there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
7:172 And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam – from their loins – their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], “Am I not your Lord?” They said, “Yes, we have testified.” [This] – lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, “Indeed, we were of this unaware.”
Al-Isra – The Night Journey
Surah 17:61-65, 70
17:61 And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He said, “Should I prostrate to one You created from clay?”
17:62 [Iblees] said, “Do You see this one whom You have honored above me? If You delay me [i.e., my death] until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely destroy his descendants, except for a few.”
17:63 [Allah] said, “Go, for whoever of them follows you, indeed Hell will be the recompense of [all of] you – an ample recompense.
17:64 And incite [to senselessness] whoever you can among them with your voice and assault them with your horses and foot soldiers and become a partner in their wealth and their children and promise them. But Satan does not promise them except delusion.
17:65 Indeed, over My [believing] servants there is for you no authority. And sufficient is your Lord as Disposer of affairs.
17:70 And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.
Al-Imran – The Family of Imran
Surah 3:33-34, 59
3:33 Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah and the family of Abraham and the family of ʿImrān over the worlds
3:34 Descendants, some of them from others. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
3:59 Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, “Be,” and he was.
Al-Ma’idah – The Table
Surah 5: 27-31
5:27 And recite to them the story of Adam’s two sons, in truth, when they both made an offering [to Allah], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], “I will surely kill you.” Said [the former], “Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].
5:28 If you should raise your hand toward me to kill me – I shall not raise my hand toward you to kill you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds.
5:29 Indeed, I want you to obtain [thereby] my sin and your sin so you will be among the companions of the Fire. And that is the recompense of wrongdoers.”
5:30 And his soul permitted to him the murder of his brother, so he killed him and became among the losers.
5:31 Then Allah sent a crow searching [i.e., scratching] in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, “O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the disgrace [i.e., body] of my brother?” And he became of the regretful.
Al-Kahf – The Cave
Surah 18: 50
18:50 And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from [i.e., disobeyed] the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.
Maryam
Surah 19: 58
19:58 Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel [i.e., Jacob], and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.
Ta-Ha
Surah 20: 115-124
20:115 And We had already taken a promise from Adam before, but he forgot; and We found not in him determination.
20:116 And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate to Adam,” and they prostrated, except Iblees; he refused.
20:117 So We said, “O Adam, indeed this is an enemy to you and to your wife. Then let him not remove you from Paradise so you would suffer.
20:118 Indeed, it is [promised] for you not to be hungry therein or be unclothed.
20:119 And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun.”
20:120 Then Satan whispered to him; he said, “O Adam, shall I direct you to the tree of eternity and possession that will not deteriorate?”
20:121 And they [i.e., Adam and his wife] ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred.
20:122 Then his Lord chose him and turned to him in forgiveness and guided [him].
20:123 [Allah] said, “Descend from it [i.e., Paradise] – all, [your descendants] being enemies to one another. And if there should come to you guidance from Me – then whoever follows My guidance will neither go astray [in the world] nor suffer [in the Hereafter].
20:124 And whoever turns away from My remembrance – indeed, he will have a depressed [i.e., difficult] life, and We will gather [i.e., raise] him on the Day of Resurrection blind.”
Ya-Sin
Surah 36: 60-61
36:60 Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan – [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy –
36:61 And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.
Creation in Pairs
4:1 O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
7:189 It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he [i.e., man] covers her, she carries a light burden [i.e., a pregnancy] and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, “If You should give us a good3 [child], we will surely be among the grateful.”
11:40 [So it was], until when Our command came and the oven overflowed, We said, “Load upon it [i.e., the ship] of each [creature] two mates and your family, except those about whom the word [i.e., decree] has preceded, and [include] whoever has believed.” But none had believed with him, except a few.
35:11 And Allah created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop; then He made you mates. And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge. And no aged person is granted [additional] life nor is his lifespan lessened but that it is in a register. Indeed, that for Allah is easy.
36:36 Exalted is He who created all pairs – from what the earth grows and from themselves and from that which they do not know.
39:6 He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?
51:49 And of all things We created two mates [i.e., counterparts]; perhaps you will remember.
53:45 And He created the pairs—males and females
53:46 from a sperm-drop when it is emitted.
55:52 In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
